Losing Jewelry to the Drain – One Kitchen Phobia You Don’t Have to Live With

drain (1)

Much in the same way you might cringe at the sound of nails on a chalkboard or the sight of your spouse sporting the surprisingly (still) legal sock and sandal combo, the idea that you might lose a precious piece of jewelry to the slimy depths of the kitchen sink is more than enough to send a shiver down your spine.

If your fortune has been good and you’ve never had to experience a wedding ring or earring plunge into the gaping maw of a drain, know that the mere sight of such a thing can make anyone’s heart drop.

As busy parents, we’ve all got enough going on; between shuttling the kids to after school activities, homework, meal prep, and of course, all the other thankless jobs that fall in our laps on any given day, it doesn’t take a stretch of the imagination to know that things (usually expensive, tiny, and sparkly things) can and will go missing from time to time; it’s just the reality of running a busy home.

Lucky for us, the days of having to place a frantic call to a plumber in the event of a lost bauble are long gone – thanks to some pretty ingenious plumbing gadgets that are neither difficult to install or prohibitively priced.

Trap Catchers – You Won’t Need One Until You Do

If you’re anything like me, you might be keen on being a DIYer; but in spite of your good intentions and your love of home improvement shows, you might not have a lot of time to learn how to do some of the more complex home improvements on your own – a fact that is especially true when it comes to plumbing. Having said that, lack of experience or skill doesn’t mean that you can’t take on a simple project that will save you a lot of time, stress, and money. Now if the first few paragraphs didn’t provide enough of a hint as to where I’m going with all this, let me just say this: add a trap catcher to your drain – you’ll be so glad you did.

Most traps available on the market can be installed with very little home improvement experience; and while saving your jewelry from the same fate as the family goldfish may be the primary reason to invest in one, there are a number of secondary benefits offered by a drain trap that will make your life so much easier.

Additional Benefits of Installing a Trap System

Because I often find myself juggling a variety of different tasks, I appreciate any product that can deliver on its promise of making my life more efficient. You’ve heard the adage, “work smarter, not harder” I presume? Well, that’s a philosophy that I try to incorporate when making any purchase for my home. Will a trap save your jewelry? You bet. But there are so many other reasons to own one.

I think you’ll agree that there’s nothing worse than a clogged drain – especially after giving the dog a much-needed bath. There was a time when the only way to deal with a clogged drain was to either buy a bottle of harsh chemicals designed to literally disintegrate the clog (neither good for the environment or your wallet for that matter) or call in a plumber for a drain repair.

Traps allow you to regularly clear a clog without the use of harsh chemicals; and I have to say that alone gives me peace of mind. I for one am more than happy to have one less potentially harmful chemical in my home.
