Are you and the little ones going stir crazy after being cooped up in the house all winter long? Let’s face it – no matter how many toys you buy or arts and crafts you plan, there is nothing quite like getting outside and enjoying the fresh air.
Now that the weather is starting to warm up, it is time to get outside and play with the kiddos! While you can always just open the back door and let the kids run free, it is also nice to plan some simple activities to keep them engaged during their time outdoors.
Work in the Yard Together
While yard work may not immediately seem like the most exciting task to tackle, pulling weeds out of the ground and watering flowers is much more fascinating through a toddler’s eyes. Tackle two birds with one stone, as you get your yard looking nice and let your little one play in the dirt at the same time.
Kids love to dance, and most of them love water too. Get a little adventurous next time there is a spring or summer shower, and take the time to dance in the rain with your kids. It seems like such a simple thing, but it is the little moments like these that both you and your children will always remember.
Play with Sidewalk Chalk
Coloring with crayons and markers can easily lose its luster after a while. But take the drawing outside, and things become much more entertaining. Let your kids get creative with sidewalk chalk. They can draw elaborate pictures, or even create their own activities, like tic-tac-toe or hopscotch.
Have a Backyard Safari
You do not necessarily need to make a special trip to the zoo to give your kids a glimpse at the marvels of nature. You can easily go on a safari in your own backyard. Get a pair of binoculars, and show your kids how to watch the birds. You could even create a big chart for them to record every type that they see. To take it one step further, you and your children can dig for worms, watch the ants carry crumbs all around and look for other bugs in the yard. You can also build a DIY playhouse kit with clubhouse, to encourage them to play outside more often.
You can always plan more elaborate activities for older children as well like going to the best Idaho resorts, but playing instantly becomes more exciting when kids are outside. Make it easy on yourself and entertaining for your kids, and take advantage of the nice weather this year by taking playtime outside.
